Hudson Cassidy, the man behind Built By HUD.
Our Story
I fell in love with carpentry in my early teens and have been actively pursuing it for the past three years. I recently entered the Northern Ontario Fine Carpentry Contest and won the contest as a grade 10 student competing against much older contestants. I then represented Northern Ontario in the Ontario Championships in Toronto and placed 7th and was one of the youngest entrants this year.
In particular, I find traditional joints such as mortise and tenon, tongue and groove, dado, finger, dovetail, etc. fascinating and try to do as much of my work using these methods as possible.
This summer, I was accepted for a government summer company program which provided some funding to help me grow my business and I invested heavily in the best equipment I could afford and have been experimenting with building various solid wood projects and selling them at craft shows, markets, and similar venues.
It has been an exciting venture and it makes me very happy when people recognize the quality of solid wood products built using traditional fine carpentry methods. My creations may look similar to many products available, but upon close inspection you will find that I am not relying on screws, nails, or other fasteners and take the time to make joints with the same hand-crafted precision you would see on pieces built 100+ years ago.
I hope you enjoy looking around my site and don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or wish to learn more.
